    Knitting Ministry

    September 2nd, 2014, 10:00 a.m.

    Location: Church Hall
    Church Hall

Meetings are Tuesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in the Church Hall.

The mission of this ministry is to provide a prayerful environment for individuals to share their love of knitting and/or crocheting and to reach out to those in need of comfort, solace and prayers.  The knitter and/or crocheter begins each prayer shawl/scarf/afghan with prayers and blessings for the recipient and when the creation is completed, it is blessed by the Priest before being presented to the recipient.  Baptismal blankets are also created for all children baptized here at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.  All creations are fee free and available to all who request them.    New Knitters are always welcome.  Please contact Sr. Georgia at the Parish Office if interested.

Shawls…made for centuries, universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving God.  They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover and give solace, mother, hug shelter and beautify.  Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles.

  • Holy Name Society

    September 2nd, 2014, 7:00 p.m.

Meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of every month in the Church Hall from September through June except for Election Day Tuesday in November.  All meetings start at 7:00 p.m.

Of all societies for men, The Holy Name Society is the greatest.  The Society owes its origin to Pope Gregory X in the year 1274, who commanded the newly-founded Dominican Order to develop greater devotion to the Holy Name of God and of Jesus Christ.  The Society helps to serve Catholic-Christian men in their continuing effort to serve Christ through their parish.

The Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is celebrating their 88th year.  We invite men to join this Society to honor our Lord’s name through prayer and action.

Annually, on Father’s Day, the society members gather at the 8:15 a.m. Mass in honor of the deceased members.

    Officers:
    Paul Scampolino, President (203)558-1612

In 1987 Father Guandalini saw a need for seniors, 55 and over, to come together spiritually and socially, which Father Aniello supports to this day.  The Forever Young Seniors society was formed by Marie Boccardi as president and the Holy Spirit as our guide.  This year marks the 26th year!

The society sponsors several activities throughout the year: A Thanksgiving Day Dinner for approximately 85 nursing home friends, gifts to Easter Seals children at Christmas, a scholarship to a Mount Carmel School student, donation to Knitting Ministry, donation to Mount Carmel Annual Feast and participation in other Parish activities

The society holds meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month from 12 Noon to 3:00 p.m., with complimentary coffee and dessert.  Guest speakers and/or entertainment are often scheduled.
